Five Favorites

The last week of normal classes at college is winding up! I'm not stressed about finals yet, the sun is shining, flowers are blooming! My optimistic energy has a pattern, though. Usually my good days this spring have involved these follwing things. (and most are blush pink!)
The first is a vanilla latte from my favorite coffeehouse, The Coffee Hound. They taste incredible and the designs in the foam are adorable! My favorite is the heart.

Before I go anywhere, I always throw on my favorite blush, Mocha Pink by Clinique. I think blush brightens up your face, and just makes you look happy!
My watch is my best friend. I don't like carrying my phone on me all the time and time management is what keeps me alive. I'm always checking my wrist to see where I need to be. My favorite watch is from American Eagle, $20.00
Covergirl's Outlast Lipstain is a miricle worker. I throw it on in the morning and I'm done. After classes and work it stays on, giving me a nice flushed lip color.
Viva la Juicy by Juicy Couture is a great spring scent. It's fun, romantic, and lasts a long time.

Nudist?

Color-blocking is in for this summer's freshest look, but I think that keeping a neutral tone will make you stand out more. The nude colors are refreshing, classy, and go with everything.

Annalynne McCord is pulling off the neutral look with a pop of orange in her heels.
Here are some of my favorite neutral pieces I've found...

Freshen UP!

I love thowing my hair up during the summer. It's too hot to even think about using irons and blow-dryers. Here are some fresh up-do's to try this summer. They are simple enough to wear running errands, but chic enough to wear on a big night out!
Whitney Port's top knot is so simple to do! Pull hair up in a hit pony and hold with an elastic. Then braid the pony. Wrap the braid around the base of the ponytale and use pins to hold.

Anne Hathaway's hair is in a deep side part. French braid the thicker side down to the nape of your neck. Then twist into a bun.
Lauren Conrad's look can be easily attained with the help of a large barrel curling iron. Put waves in hair for added volume. Then pull pieces of hair back and pin into a bun. Add some tiny braids, too!
Taylor Swift's look is similar to LC's, except Taylor has a side part and made tighter curls. Do the same technique of pulling pieces and pinning into a bun. Curl any face framing pieces that fall loose around your face.
To get Amanda Seyfried's look, tease hair and twist into a high messy bun. Slip a headband in and tease hair even more behind it. Spray with hairspray to keep the volume.
Blake Lively's look is close to Whitney's, except you just leave the braid down. Slick hair back into a tight pony and secure. Braid hair and secure. Try a fishtale braid for a different look.
This is my go-to updo. I braid my hair in pigtale braids, cross them, and pin.

Life-sized Barbie Causes Image Issues

I remember playing with my HUGE collection of Barbies as a kid (most were the red-headed ones). Her life was perfect! She lived in my huge plastic mansion I got for Christmas, her clothes were always in style, her bangs were perfectly teased, and she had Ken wrapped around her finger. But was there a underlying message?
So many girls AND boys are suffering from body image issues and eating disorders are on the rise. Is Barbie giving girls the idea to be perfect? Galia Slayen, a sophomore at Hamilton College in New York, created a life sized Barbie with the proportions of the doll figure.

A life-sized Barbie would be nearly six feet tall, have a 39-inch bust, 18-inch waist, 33-inch hips, and a size three shoe. With these proportions, she would have to walk on all fours and has a BMI of an aneroxic person.
A slumber party themed Barbie came with a bathroom scale that read 110 pounds.
Most people just look at Barbie as a classic doll. But is there something more?

Spring Is In The Air!

My favortie new trend is floral print. It's fresh, fun, and adorable. Go crazy and mix florals together, add them with other pattens, or pair them with a basic neutral. Here are a few things on my flower-print wishlist.

Favortie Look : Lauren Conrad

If anyone knows me well, they know I have an obsession with Lauren Conrad's style. She grew from a beachy California girl to a style icon, yet always has a casual, polished look.

My take on Lauren's outfit has a few changes to fit the current bitter weather I'm walking to class in.

Belt: Abercrombie&Fitch $20.00

Coffee, The New Dessert?

If you're like me, having a piping hot skinny vanilla latte from Starbucks is like having an IV in your vein. It completely rejuvinates you. The other day while I was waiting in line for my mouth-gasim, I looked at the menu. With all these chocolate, carmel, and whipped cream topped drinks, I though, what was the line between a cup of coffee and a dessert course?

After looking up the calorie content of certain drinks, I was shocked (and disguested).

Black coffee has about 10 calories and 0 sugar.
By adding whipped cream to the top of your drink, you add about 80 to 130 calories. It also adds about 8 to 12 grams of fat content to your drink.
A tablespoon of chocolate syrup is 50 calories. Any mocha drinks can contain up to 4 tablespoons (200 calories of just chocolate!).
By using reduced fat or skim milk, you can cut off around 140 calories from your drink.

Just by reducing the amount of sugar and syrups you add and choising lighter milk can cut back on so many calories. Most coffeehouses have sugar free syrup you can ask for. So instead of my usual vanilla latte, I now choose a skinny vanilla latte. It tastes just as good!

Sweet Sugar Scrub

brown sugar scrub
I have very dry skin and as a college kid, a very empty wallet. So, I refuse to spend $14.00 on a sugar scrub to help moisturize my skin.  Instead I came up with a simple recipe to make my own sugar scrub. It is super quick and easy, and your skin will be glowing after you finish!

Mix together 1 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 cup olive oil,  and 2 tablespoons of honey.
And that's it!
Wet your face and add a small scoop onto your face. Rub it in gentle.
It also makes an amazing body scrub!

Rinse with warm water and ta-da! Super smooth and hydrated skin!
If you put in into a nice container (Crate&Barrell has cheap, cute ones) it makes a great gift. Just add a pretty ribbon.
